Q. What is one productivity app, gadget, or tool you use consistently?
I am a Mac user and one of the key functions that I use for productivity is the “stickies” function. Each day I log into my computer the first thing I see is my “stickie” note. It allows me to add a “to-do-list” on a virtual stickie note that stays in the corner of my computer screen. I can remove tasks as I complete or add as many tasks as I wish. This function minimizes the need to add additional alarms on my cell phone, calendar alerts as well as minimize the use of paper stickie notes.
Q. How do you practice self-care in your life?
I pamper myself daily! Every morning and night I give myself a mini facial. I also give myself a pedicure and manicure once a month. One of my BIGGEST self-care techniques is to avoid negativity at all cost!
Q. What is one pet peeve of yours?
One pet peeve of mine is calling me FaceTime or social media video chat with no warning! That gets under my skin and its quite rude. It’s kind of like showing up to someone’s house unannounced and an invasion of my private space. lol
Q. What is one thing you love about yourself?
I love my smile! Not only because it makes me feel beautiful, but because of the joy it brings to others and the energy it carries.
Q. What is one thing that makes you laugh hard?
TikTok is where I go to be entertained! Literally, you can’t take most users on that app seriously. If you are easily offended TikTok isn’t for you. lol
Q. What is one thing about you most people don’t know?
Most people don’t know that I’m a scary cat! I am afraid of heights, large bodies of water and most animals. lol
Q. What is one cause or initiative you believe in and support?
There are many initiatives that I support but one cause that has recently caught my attention is the “Pull Up For Change” initiative led by the CEO of UOMA Beauty, which fights for economic opportunities for African Americans around the world. It has sparked quite a buzz in the black community forcing top brands that African Americans spend their dollars on to be transparent about the percentage of black people they actually hire within their companies and initiate a change. Their numbers are very disappointing. Some of our “favorite” brands don’t support African Americans but thrive on our dollars.
Q. What is one way you practice kindness to women in your life?
I believe in praising the women in my life. Every accomplishment, every milestone and every breathe they take. It’s a lot for African American women to simply just exist. They should be praised for that constantly.
Q. What is one personal or professional development resource (book, podcast, course, video, song) you recommend?
I am a member of a Facebook group called “Bossfluence” led by Mattie James, professional blogger/influencer. This group was recommended to me by my friend Ify Obi. It’s a group dedicated to supporting and networking with fellow Influencers. It has honestly been a blessing to meet and learn from the experiences of other influencers. We share tips on how to navigate through our influencer journey.
Q. What is one of your favorite mantras or quotes?
“IF ONLY OUR EYES SAW SOULS INSTEAD OF BODIES HOW DIFFERENT OUR IDEALS OF BEAUTY WOULD BE”
Bonus Question:
Q. Who is one woman in your network you’d like to see featured on the blog and blogger spotlight series? Dr. Krystal Shelmire N.D
